NM i GamePlay 2015

We entered a national game jam called the Norwegian championship of GamePlay (NM i GamePlay) this year for the first time. The winner receives a 100.000NOK grant for a gamedev project of their choice as well as 50.000NOK worth of advertising. It is also lots of fun and you get to meet a lot of other Norwegian game developers at the final event.

The theme this year was “Resistance” and we could not resist our urges to make a strategy game for this 10 day jam. Now, if you ever did a game jam before you are probably screaming to us through your screen that one should never ever ever make a strategy game for a game jam, and you are completely right. There is simply not enough time to balance everything to make it interesting. We knew that and we did it anyway.

Besieged is an experimental style strategy game.

Needless to say we did not win. The team who did was Process with their Agents vs. Villains, our heartfelt congrats goes out to this talented team, and we are excited to see what else they will make in the future.

Our game is called Besieged, you are in control of a hospital in a warzone, occupied by the evil nation, Red. You have to keep your hospital running by ensuring it will receive supplies, either by trucks that are subject to random searches at the border, or through secret tunnels under the Red wall. You win if you keep your hospital running until Red and Blue race a peace agreement, you loose if you run out of supplies. you can distract border guards by firing rockets, and you can influence the democratic pressure on the peace process by making movies documenting the siege.

As an added bonus all of the members in our team caught the flu during these 10 days, but we are happy to say that we finished something (more or less ;) ).

We have not decided if we want to develop the game further, go check it out and let us know if we should!
